Class Description:

NOTE: THERE IS A $10 MATERIALS FEE FOR THIS CLASS. PLEASE SELECT THE ADD-ON BELOW.

Create postcards that capture the moments that bring you the most joy, whether they’re big or small. This workshop will encourage participants to design postcards that celebrate happiness, moments of pure bliss, and things that make life worth smiling about. Using simple block printing techniques, participants will transform their joyful memories into tangible, shareable works of art. This course is open to artists of all skill levels and is designed to nurture creativity and self-expression. Whether you're new to printmaking or an experienced artist, you'll be guided through the process in a supportive and welcoming environment.

This class is structured as a hands-on, open-format studio where each participant's creative journey is unique. Whether you are refining your printmaking skills or experimenting for the first time, we will learn together through exploration and play.

Participants will:
-Learn the basics of block printing, including carving, inking, and printing techniques.
-Reflect on moments of joy and translate those memories into visual designs.
-Create a series of hand-printed postcards to share with loved ones or keep as personal mementos.

Workshop Outline:

While the structure of workshops are flexible to the needs and goals of the participants, here’s a general guide for what to expect:

Welcome & Introduction (15 minutes)
Warm welcome and overview of the workshop
Brief introduction to block printing tools and materials
Step-by-step Block Printing Demonstration

Design & Carving (1 hour, 15 minutes)
Guided reflection on moments of joy for inspiration
Sketching and transferring designs to linoleum blocks
Carving and preparing blocks for printing

Printing & Sharing (1 hour, 15 minutes)
Inking and printing postcards
Experimenting with color and texture
Sharing and reflecting on the creative process

Wrap-Up (15 minutes)
Final printing and finishing touches
Group reflection and sharing of completed postcards

Shannon Rose Moriarty is a teaching artist who believes in the creative power of authenticity. With over 10 years of experience in arts education and community outreach, her teaching approach emphasizes curiosity, accessibility, and personal storytelling. She believes art is a powerful tool for connection and self-discovery, striving to create a supportive environment where everyone can explore and celebrate their creative voice. Her work investigates relationships and bonds between people, materials, and space, focusing on how creative expression can empower individuals and unite communities. As a multidisciplinary artist, she creates ceramic sculptures and explores other mediums like linoleum block printing, cyanotype, and collage to express themes of comfort, strength, and social wellness.
